Our Top Golf Courses in Belize

To be clear, there is little room carved out for golf courses in Belize. In fact, there are only 27 holes across the Caribbean nation, split between two courses: Caye Chapel Golf and Roaring River Golf Course. The courses boast dramatic views, idyllic layouts, and all the amenities one might expect from a golf club.

Caye Chapel Golf

Caribbean waters surround the entire course on Chapel Caye. Intrigued? It gets better. This golf course in Belize is located on a private island. Eighteen holes are carefully placed throughout this island. The course carries the trademark of Greg Norman, former pro golfer, and his partner Lorena Ochoa.

The island has a large 23,000-square-foot clubhouse to support the golf course. In addition to the traditional amenities of a clubhouse, Caye Chapel also has a conference center that can be rented out for business meetings. Remember, Belize is only 2 to 2.5 hours on plane from Dallas and Miami – not a bad place for a business meeting! The caye even has a runway for small aircraft to take off and land. If you’re on the mainland of Belize, it’s only a 10-minute flight or a 45-minute boat ride away.

The USGA rated, 72-par course plays mostly flat, but it’s long. There are four 5-par holes that make for excellent places to open up with your driver. For $75, golfers get a cart, clubs, coolers, balls and tees for the day. Word to the wise: try not to lose your golf balls in the Caribbean!

Despite the island being “unofficially” open as a resort, it does offer amenities like over-water resort bungalows, a swimming pool, athletic center and many other luxury additions.

Roaring River Golf Course

Located on the mainland of Belize, west of Belmopan, is a uniquely designed 9-hole golf course called Roaring River. The course has been attracting golfers since 1933. What makes it unique is the vast range of wildlife in the area. The Roaring River course is built in and around the natural vegetation of central Belize, rather than in place of it. You will find all of the greens on the course are elevated and bunkered.

As of this writing, golfers can play 9 holes of Roaring River for $17.50 or 18 holes for $25. The green fee includes clubs, balls, and tees. The course can challenge even the most experienced golfers, but it can also provide a fun landscape for beginners to find some early success. Bare in mind that you may cross paths with a crocodile on the course, but that’s nothing new for any golfer who has ever played in Florida. When you wrap up your round, head over to the restaurant for a bite to eat. The course is open all year long.

Belize has so much to offer, including opportunities to vacation and retire. If you like the idea of playing golf on a private island, imagine owning a private island. It’s more affordable than you might think!
