Placencia Belize Makes New York Times “Places to Go in 2017” List
For the 12th consecutive year, the travel section of The New York Times published its annual list of the top travel destinations in the world. The article, titled 52 Places to Go in 2017, was a collection of top vacation spots that met the criteria of being unique, exciting and diverse. This year’s list was especially exciting as our favorite vacation destination, Placencia, Belize, made the list.
Placencia Belize and Ecotourism
The article contributor, Elaine Glusac, introduced the piece with the phrase, “Ecotourism expands in southern Belize.” This statement perfectly describes the direction in which the country is moving. The feature mentions the delightful quaintness of the small village that makes it a top travel destination. Here is more about the ambiance, accommodations and adventure that can be found in Placencia:
Laid-Back Beach Town
In the article, Glusac refers to golf carts as a common mode of transportation in Placencia. The easygoing lifestyle of the village is one of the major draws of this destination, and a big reason why it’s rated as one of the top places to go. On almost every pier, a hammock or swing can be found overlooking the Caribbean Sea. In addition, the local residents are friendly, helpful and take pride in the beauty of their village.
Ocean Front Villas
There are a several luxurious accommodations to stay in while on vacation in Placencia, Belize. Private Belize islands and villas are some of the most desirable accommodations in Placencia, with state of the art developments, resort amenities and breathtaking, oceanfront views. If you’re looking for a short-term vacation home or a long-term investment, there are properties available to meet your needs and budget.
Adventure On Sea And Land
Possibly the most intriguing activity to participate in when visiting Placencia, Belize is Whale Shark diving. During the months of March through June, around the full moon, Whale Sharks gather around the reefs of Belize to feed on fish eggs. If you are able to visit Belize during these times during the year, your snorkeling or scuba adventure may reach a new level of excitement.
Placencia is at the ideal location for visitors to partake in one-of-a-kind adventures both on land and sea. Hiking, caving, ziplining and rappelling adventures are all only a short drive away. If you prefer water adventures, then boat rides, snorkeling, diving and fishing are easily accessible as well.
We couldn’t agree more that Placencia, Belize is one of the top places to go in 2017. Once a sleepy fishing village, Placencia is now one of the most popular eco-destinations in the Caribbean and a new stop for Norwegian Cruise Line. Developments continue to appear along this Belizean peninsula, which offer all the comforts of first world living, but the charm of a quaint, tropical destination remains. We anticipate Placencia, Belize to remain among the Top 10 Places to Go well in the future.
